Meet DestaPlan: Shaking Up The Way We Travel

Leisure travel is growing at an unprecedented rate as millennials increasingly overtake new destinations throughout the world. Individuals are traveling far more than ever before. Two of us got to experience the trip of a lifetime when we studied abroad in Barcelona. Two of us also met while doing our MBA’s in Boston. Like any eager students, we travelled every weekend and noticed a problem; coordinating itineraries with big groups of friends was practically impossible. There was little to no collaboration in organizing trips, seeing as Facebook, WhatsApp, text messages, screenshots and emails served as the limiting channels of collaboration. Information was scattered across various platforms and hundreds of messages. Coming home, we were asked the same questions over and over again, “Where did you go? What did you do? How long? Any recommendations for when I go?”

This led us to question, why is there no centralized platform for people to plan their trips with friends in an organized, visually friendly and collaborative way. Why do I have to separately research, organize, and coordinate all my travel information? I’d much rather trust 2 of my friends, than 10 strangers. Why doesn’t a blend of TripAdvisor, Google Sheets and Facebook exist? What if there was a platform that allowed you to visually organize your trip, search for friends to see where they’ve been and what they’ve done, and are able to easily coordinate itineraries. Would this make things easier?

We know so.

Destaplan is a travel social network that facilitates the organization process of travelling. It serves as a centralized platform to make travelling easy. No more countless documents and messaging back and forth. With Destaplan, users can visually see where they are going, add to their itinerary, and most importantly, share their trips with all of their friends. Search for a friend and see everywhere they have been and what they have done. Search for a city and see all of your friends who have been there as well as their corresponding trip itineraries. Planning and organizing a trip has never been more easy to use, collaborative and fun!

Destaplan’s goal is to become the go-to travel network. Whether people are planning their big Euro trip with friends, looking for expert advice from friends, or trying to coordinate their plans with others, we don’t want a trip being done without Destaplan.

The best ideas are the ones you are most passionate about. Be passionate about what you do. If you consider what you are building as “work” then you are probably in it for the wrong reasons. At Destaplan, we are passionate about travel and truly solving the problem that currently exists amongst organization and coordination. We love what we do and therefore are much more encouraged and motivated.

Do things that don’t scale. In its early days, AirBnB went door to door to every single customer they had asking for feedback and eventually found that the photos customers were putting up were poor. What did they do? They hired professional photographers to take photos of every home. While this approach may have been time consuming with small scalability, it allowed AirBnb to understand their customers and products in real time and discover problems they didn’t know before, eventually preventing them from failing.

Execute, execute, execute. People sit and wait until they are ready to finally tell everyone about their great idea and are afraid that someone will copy it; eventually waiting out so long they no longer have the desire to do so. Dozens of people out there have already thought of the same idea and product you have. It’s not about the idea; it’s about the execution. Go out there and do it. Don’t be afraid to fail, because no successful company has got to where they were without failing first.

The biggest mistake you can make in entrepreneurship is not trying. You don’t want to live the rest of your life with the regret of not having tried out that bizarre idea you had years ago.  Be passionate, work hard, do things that don’t scale, execute, fail fast, pivot, and most importantly, enjoy the ride.

Travel more, worry less.
